The company, then known as Compustat, started out as a software bureau delivering an accounts receivable service to a group of pharmacies and similar businesses.
Some well known applications and services were developed by the group, including GhostWriter, GhostConvey, Jutastat, APCS and The Compact Collection.
Reinvented features of GhostWriter in the newly emerging Microsoft Windows environment in the form of a plug-in to MS Word that we called GhostFill.
Became the first commercial Internet Service Provider in Africa in the form of Internet Africa (URL: iafrica.com). Around this time, the company name changed to Korbitec.
Developed a software system known as “WinDeed” which allowed the public and professionals easy access to property related and other public domain data.
Won the contract for development of a document automation solution for the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We created this in GhostFill and then migrated it into GhostDraft.
Developed GhostPractice, a legal accounting and practice management system with the goal to help law firms achieve better business results.
Launched ACL to simplify the complex world of managing Canadian court forms and the associated litigation workflow.
Naspers Ltd acquired half of Korbitec's property-related divisions, leading to the creation of Korbitec (property/legal solutions) and Korbicom (non-property aspects). Korbitec acquired the dormant business of Property24 from Naspers and developed it into the largest property portal in Africa.
Launched our third generation document automation engine called GhostDraft, leveraging the knowledge and experience gained from our GhostWriter and GhostFill solutions.
On the back of its early commercial success in South Africa, Korbicom established a relationship through which GhostDraft was marketed extensively into North America.
Korbicom established its new innovative and attractive offices in the Great Westerford Building, where our headquarters were first established in 1999. This remains our home.
Korbicom participated in the development of xchangedocs from 2018. The product was then launched in 2020. xchangedocs provides a secure cloud-based platform through which any party participating in a specific legal matter can exchange documents quickly, securely, and economically.”
The businesses of ACL,
xchangedocs and GhostPractice were sold to Dye & Durham Ltd, a Canadian-based software firm listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. This transaction represented a strategic opportunity for Korbistat to focus its energy and substantial investment into its cloud-based GhostDraft solutions development.
Following completion of the D&D transaction, Korbicom has now been renamed and rebranded into Korbistat and is focussed on the ongoing development of GhostDraft. This software engine has evolved into one of the leading Customer Communications Management (“CCM”) software platforms in the world. With over 80 large, global enterprise customers, including an A-list of South African corporate customers, the GhostDraft team is set to expand into an exciting range of new markets and vertical applications.
Trusted software for effective business, document and accounting management.
